Dead Heat

There is an ugly wound

across the face of England,
a deep and dirty cut
that reeks of fear.
Split by an axe, our country
cracks and crumbles
and our ancient hate resurfaces
as molten rock that spews
and spits and terrifies,
exposing the divide
and widening our weakened frames
until the other side, obscured,
looks like another country
to be sliced and severed.
Our blood pours out,
thick and unrelenting,
poisonous words choke and multiply,
the front line takes a sacrifice
and Great Britain dies.
